A joint program targeted at movie lovers was presented today at Holiday World by representatives of all five partner institutions. The purpose of the Prague Cinematic project is to bring together a diverse range of activities that will enable both local and foreign visitors to the city to get to know our capital differently - as a film destination. The city, where you can discover not only a large number of locations where famous movie scenes were filmed, but also places where you can look behind the veil of film trickery to see behind the scenes and inside the studios where visitors or even yourself may momentarily become movie stars or directors.

Carlsbad, 7. 7. 2014

The memorandum on cooperation in the three-year project We're cleaning up the world of fantasy (Čistíme svět fantazie) was signed today in Carlsbad by the Managing Director of Czech TV Petr Dvořák, the President of board of the Foundation České Bijáky Petr Šikoš and Director of the Karel Zeman Museum Jakub Matějka. The project is created in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The aim of the joint project is to digitally restore three selected Czech films from the Golden Fund of Czech cinematography produced by Karel Zeman, to re-introduce them to the general public and ensure their preservation in the highest possible quality for future generations. The first film to be digitally retored will be The Fabulous World of Jules Verne, followed by the films The Fabulous Baron Munchausen and Journey to the Beginning of Time. The plan is to restore one film a year. Both the professional and general public will be invited to become involved in the project through a public collection.

From October 8, the Karel Zeman Museum will be exhibiting original costumes from Karel Zeman's films. Ludmila Zemanova, the daughter of the director, is flying specially from Canada to open the newly extended exhibition. Visitors to the Museum can enjoy a variety of support programs to mark its first birthday: film, art and music workshops inspired by Zeman, costume hire or samples of other film crafts. The celebrations will culminate in a multimedia concert by Clarinet Factory on the Čertovka (The Devil's Channel).

The Karel Zeman Museum is proud to join Prague's other prestigious museums and open its doors on Saturday 14th September in the evening as part of the now traditional Museum Night.

In addition to visiting the attractive museum outside of traditional hours, visitors can also enjoy the festive illumination of the Museum grounds, night boating on the ElektroNemo, puzzles and quizzes, demonstration workshops in animation and special effects, and screenings of Zeman films. Weather permitting, the film program will culminate in an open air presentation of The Fabulous World of Jules Verne, starting 21:00 in the Saxon court.

The film premier of the restored digital version of the film “Journey to the Beginning of Time” (1955) will be held on 30th June and 4th July 2013 at the International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary.

This non-fiction film from 1955 tells the story of four boys who set sail on a wooden boat up the river of time on a fantastic journey to the prehistoric Earth. One by one they explore the Quaternary, - including the Ice Age - the Tertiary, the Mesozoic and the Paleozoic Eras up to the Silurian sea, where they find a living trilobite.
