The Tale of John and Mary /Pohádka o Honzíkovi a Mařence/

Karel Zeman's last work, from 1980, is an original animated feature.
Zeman's idea and script for the film were based on traditional Czech fairy tales.

John, a young knight, goes out into the world in search of success and fortune, but he is confronted by hardships and privations. At the end of his struggles, however, he manages to win the love of the lovely water-nymph Mary and learns where true happiness lies.

This melancholic tale won prizes in Italy and Portugal.
